Estimated PTE Overall Score
Why PTE Scoring Can't Be Calculated Exactly
PTE Academic reports two layers of scores: an overall score (10–90) and four communicative skill scores — Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing (each 10–90). Underneath those sit six enabling skills (grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, written discourse).
Pearson doesn't publish the exact formula, because many PTE question types score more than one skill at once — an "Describe Image" response, for instance, feeds into both your Speaking score and enabling skills like oral fluency and pronunciation simultaneously. The overall score comes from machine scoring of every individual item, not a clean average of the four skills afterward.
This tool gives you a reasonable estimate by averaging your four communicative skill scores — close enough to gauge roughly where you stand, but treat your real overall score (from an actual test) as the only one that counts for applications.
